How our Senate voted on the Mukasey confirmation

The recent vote on the confirmation of new Attorney General Mike Mukasey is illustrative of a few things.

First, the vote was mostly along party lines:
  • No Republican voted against the confirmation
  • All but 10 Democrats voted against the confirmation
  • Final tally was 53 for, 40 against

But here's the bigger issue. None of the senators in the 2008 presidential race voted!

Cowards
  • Joe Biden
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Christopher Dodd
  • Barack Obama

Infidels
  • Evan Bayh
  • Thomas Carper
  • Dianne Feinstein
  • Mary Landrieu
  • Ben Nelson
  • Chuck Schumer
  • Joe Lieberman (he's an infidel because he voted for the confirmation AND because he abandoned his party)
I think the Cowards identified above need to be held to account for their inaction. The infidels can go fornicate themselves.

The Torture of Democratic Incompetence

I'm posting an entry from one of my favorite blogs, Just a Girl in short shorts talking about whatever, about the Democrats' latest puss-out, the Mukasey confirmation hearings. First, Dianne Feinstein turn-coated and voted for him in the subcommittee hearings, then a bunch of Dems voted for him in the full session.

It's so sad how the Dems publicly castrate themselves every time an important vote comes up. Pretty soon, the only balls left will be the ones dangling from Feinswine, the transgendered senator from wacky California.

AG Gonzales resignation: Let the games begin!

Oh, the hilarity ensues over Gonzo (that's "Alberto" Gonzales) leaving (from Wonkette):
His sons are named Jared, Graham, and Gabriel??? Those are the whitest fucking names we have ever heard.
Bedtime For Gonzo Dept.: Fredo's Resignation Speech - Wonkette

Here's a joke that is not really funny:
Anyway, Democrats won, hooray, and all they had to do to win the resignation of a criminal they should’ve impeached was agree to sign away all of our rights in a wiretapping bill that they were angry with Fredo for illegally trying to enforce in the first place. Shit, is it Labor Day yet?
A Farewell To Assholes Dept.: HEY EVERYONE, GONZO FINALLY RESIGNED - Wonkette

Well, hotdog, Alberto Gonzales quit. I wonder why...let me count the felonies

US Attorney General Gonzales resigns - Yahoo! News

More on the scoundrel who called himself "Alberto."
It has been one of my greatest privileges to lead the Department of Justice," Gonzales said, announcing his resignation effective Sept. 17 in a terse statement. He took no questions and gave no reason for stepping down.
Maybe it was the US attorney scandal. Or the warrantless wiretapping. Or the waterboarding. Or the "quaint" provisions of the Geneva Conventions. Could have been anything. Dipshit wouldn't tell us why. I'd say all of the above.

And MORE. The frightening thing, history will show us, is what we don't know. You think all of the above was bad? Wait til you find out what we don't know.

I bet the guy moves to South America and spends the rest of his life with his idol, Adolf Hitler.

McNulty resignation exposes cracks in the Justice Department facade

Andrew Cohen, blogger for washingtonpost.com, says this about McNulty:
And if McNulty truly is upset with the way Gonzales and Company treated him after the controversy broke, then it is possible that we will soon see McNulty come back to Capitol Hill for another round of testimony, this time as a private citizen given (I believe) a grant of immunity. If that happens, watch out.

More Justice Department shenanigans

Just what does "Alberto" Gonzales do? Does he do anything, or at least anything not stupid and/or deceitful?

Here's a great case of the BS he has pulled. He allows one federal attorney to NOT do his main job 27 days out of the month, while he fires another for doing his job 27 days a month. Plus, this attorney was spending his "non work time" serving in the military (a job he had to do).
"It's a curious contrast that leaders in the Department of Justice would slip a change into law to allow one U.S. Attorney to spend only a few days a month in his district and keep his job, while at the same time claiming to fire another for spending a few days a month away from his district to serve his country," Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) said in a statement.

"Alberto" Gonzales is one cocky SOB

Or he's just the most complete imbecile ever? I love this quote:

I now understand that there was a conversation between myself and the president.
Um, how could he not have "understood" this earlier? He, presumably, was THERE! After all, it was a conversation between himself and the president.

Wouldn't it have been more accurate to have said, "Now I remember that I had a conversation with the president" rather than to have said what he said?

Aren't lawyers supposed to be very careful about the language they use? Did something get lost in translation between Gonzales' brain and his mouth? We know that the president has been infected with this malady. Should the American public be concerned that a horrible disease is spreading in our capital?

"Alberto" Gonzales? It wasn't me

AG Gonzales has his feet put to the fire in Senate hearing on his role in firing 8 federal prosecutors.

Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania Senator, said of Gonzales' recollection of his part in the dismissals:
"significantly if not totally at variance with the facts"
This, in case you cannot decipher Senate-speak, is other words for "lying."

I have this fantasy of becoming a Senator or Representative and grilling these empty suits with terse questions and then blasting them for not answering them.

"Mr Gonzales, you are either lying or your stupid. Which one is it?"

"Alberto" Gonzales stands by decision to fire US Attorneys

He says the firings were justified, but he doesn't know why because he wasn't involved.

Sounds like faith-based logic to me. "I have never seen or spoken with God, but I know He exists."

That kind of reasoning is only appropriate to religion though. The rest of the world has to stick to facts. Sorry, "Alberto."

Stonewalling Bush

It seems as though our president has taken stonewalling to a new high (or low, as the case may be). There's nothing that comes out of this administration that is, in the words of the president, "transparent." Everything is cloaked in secrecy, on a need-to-know basis.

I, for one, am sick and tired of this administration's skirting the law, flouting its power, and forestalling any and all oversight. Tony Snow said that the Congress had no constitutional right to oversight of the Executive branch. I'm no constitutional scholar, but I think Congress has a bitch here. Seems to me that the founding fathers, so often cited as if they're gods by this administration, intended that there by (grade school civics don't fail me now)...checks and balances.

Our whole government is predicated on this concept of checks and balances: No one branch can impose its will or bully its way into doing something. But President Bush and "Alberto" disagree. They believe that George indeed should be King.

The linked story is just one of many examples of how this administration stonewalls its overseers.

Sign the petition to remove Attorney General Alberto Gonzales from office

Here's your chance to change the direction the United States is moving -- sign the petition to oust AG Alberto Gonzales. He lied to Congress (not sure whether under oath or not -- does it really matter?) and should be fired, charged, convicted, and imprisoned, without, I must add, the ability to confront his accusers or have his case heard anywhere but Gitmo.

There. I'm sure I'll be whisked off in some blacked out Suburban, never to be heard from again.
