Ron Paul is a Bigot, Homophobe, and Generally Horrible Human Being

Thanks to Just a Girl in short shorts for pointing out the sham and scam that is called the Ron Paul for Presidency. From what I've heard Paul say, I liked him, generally speaking. I know his followers tend to be -- ahem -- exuberant, but I was willing to give the guy a chance, though he would not have ever gotten my vote (Obama and/or Edwards is probably where I'm leaning).

Now, however, after reading Angry White Man, I am more skeptical than ever. It seems that Ron Paul published newsletters, to which many horrible articles have been attributed. He covered topics such as homosexuality, AIDS, race, and conspiracy, all with the bigotry and vileness usually left to the Klan.

Of course, the Paul camp is claiming that he didn't write the pieces. Paul claims,
When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.
So the author, James Kirchick, of the so-called "hit piece" surmises:
In other words, Paul's campaign wants to depict its candidate as a naive, absentee overseer, with minimal knowledge of what his underlings were doing on his behalf.
Which, when you think about it, is exactly what we have right now in the Bush presidency! It's time for a change. Ron Paul isn't it.

Come on, Ron Paul dealt with this a long time ago. This is old news.

Paul supporters: Please simply link to the articles documenting that Paul confronted this problem a decade ago, took responsibility for the bigotry going out under his name, and clearly disavowed it. It's clear that you guys have seen this evidence and been convinced by it. Please share it with us!

So you're saying we should let another CEO-type president, one who claims he doesn't know what's going on under his nose?

If my name were on a newsletter, I'd want to make sure that I had editorial control over it.

If that's what you all want, then elect him. Otherwise, I've had enough "I'm not accountable" presidents the past few times around.

And even though Paul has said he should have done better, shouldn't he have done better before it happened? He's talking about occupying a pretty significant post. He surely will treat this responsibility with much more care, right?

Have you ever met a full time doctor?

They are not the type of people that have heavy time on their hands to edit through a newsletter every edition.

Good luck in finding Jesus to run for president. Look for someone with good policies not a perfect track record, if you are looking for perfection in a candidate you have a very long wait ahead.
