Bush meets Dalai Lama over Chinese protest

I've written before about Congress' contemplation of a resolution to call the Turks murderers, but how is this different?

The Bush administration got all pissy about that, saying that the Turks would get mad, shut down supply channels, move into Iraq, ruin our efforts there (like our efforts are working!).
Other officials have warned, without specifying, of a “serious impact” on relations between the United States and China.

Mr. Bush, during a news conference, appeared unconcerned.

“I don’t think it ever damages relations,” he said, “when an American president talks about, you know — religious tolerance and religious freedom is good for a nation.”
So Bush meets with the Dalai Lama. China really hates the dude, and every time somebody meets with him, they do something that harms foreign relations. All we need is the Chinese to be angry with us, maybe stop transport of cheap crap only Americans are dumb enough to buy, maybe screw with our currency or bonds. We need them a lot more than they need us.

Furthermore, we need the Chinese way more than we need the Turks.

Doesn't anybody see this?
