Rice to staff: Iraq postings are mandatory - Conflict in Iraq - MSNBC.com:
"It's one thing if someone believes in what's going on over there and volunteers, but it's another thing to send someone over there on a forced assignment," Crotty said. "I'm sorry, but basically that's a potential death sentence and you know it. Who will raise our children if we are dead or seriously wounded?"
Um, the taxpayers? We've begun to pay for all this Iraq mess already haven't we? In terms of misdirected taxes (going to the war effort rather than, say, educating our children), higher energy prices (don't say that the price of oil has nothing to do with Iraq), higher prices all around (inflation is the ultimate tax), a dollar whose value has fallen precipitously (imports cost us more now), etc.

We're all paying for this war. I hope to hell nobody ever says we haven't sacrificed for this war.

Perhaps most of us haven't made the ultimate sacrifice, but to suggest that we've had it easy is not owning up to the facts: A war of stupid choice has grim consequences.
